Turkish Robot Dog Proteo Shines at NATO Event
A Turkish startup, Hyperever, has unveiled its advanced four-legged autonomous robot prototype, named Proteo, at the final stage of the NATO Innovation Continuum 2025. This event, led by NATO ACT, aims to accelerate the adoption of breakthrough technologies within the alliance, and Hyperever’s Proteo demonstrated its capabilities at Istanbul Technical University’s Maritime Faculty.
Hyperever, a 2.5-year-old startup based in Istanbul Technical University’s ARI Technopark, specializes in articulated robot design, software, embedded systems, and automation. Proteo, developed through these efforts, is a military AI robot designed for surveillance, logistical support, and explosive ordnance disposal. It can navigate challenging terrains while carrying significant loads. The robot supports autonomous, semi-autonomous, and manual control, guided by GNSS and advanced artificial intelligence, making it a crucial asset for military operations.
Proteo boasts a 35-kilogram payload capacity, an operating time of 4-6 hours, and can reach speeds of up to 12 kilometers per hour. Çayan Baykal, founder and CEO of Hyperever, highlighted the value of participating in the NATO event and their integrated work with other firms. He stated that Proteo contributed to coastal security by transmitting real-time images and data to command centers during missions. Baykal noted that the startup rapidly produced its first prototype, accumulating significant internal knowledge.
Baykal emphasized Proteo’s advantages over comparable systems, particularly its durability in harsh conditions and high payload capacity, which are critical for military applications. He confirmed that a new, standards-compliant version capable of carrying up to 35 kilograms will be deployed early next year. Beyond military uses, civilian security is also a focus, with Proteo adaptable for various autonomous patrol duties in tough environments. Hyperever plans to leverage this expertise to develop humanoid robots in the future.
